Sant Miquel de Balansat

Sant Miquel de Banalsat, Eivissa

The church of Sant Miquel stands high above the other buildings in the town. In the past it was used as a fortress to defend the populace against pirate attacks. The first church was built in the 14th century, but its present-day appearance is the result of remodelling work conducted in the 18th century. Every Tuesday, Plaça de Sant Miquel is the setting for a market where produce typical of Ibiza is sold.

Just a few kilometres away is Sant Miquel Port, situated in a small bay with a sandy beach. A number of hotels and the most essential services for tourists are to be found here. From the port, the eye is drawn to a small islet just offshore where a luxury home has been built. Can Marçà Cave in Ibiza makes a fascinating place to visit. It was once used as a refuge for smugglers bringing contraband goods to the island and contains beautiful formations of stalactites and stalagmites.
