Racó de S’Alga in S’Espalmador

S’Alga beach also known as Racó de s’Alga (seaweed corner) is located in S’Espalmador island, buildin a semicircular inlet. This unspoilt beach is 1000 metres long and has an average width of 90 metres, and it has fine-grained white sand and an extensive system of dunes at the rear, fixed by bushes and it has crystal clear water. One of its attractions is the bath in sulphurous mud which is supposed to be good for the skin. The Balearic Islands government has prohibited to bath and the use of this mud, in S’Espalmador lagoon, as part of Ses Salines d’Eivissa amd Formentera Natural Park regulations. In order to protect the fauna of the area, from the sever disturbance that those baths mean to them, in addition to the modification of the substrate in which feed themselves mainly bird species.

S’Espalmador island is separated from Formentera by the Pas d’en Adolf also known as Es Pas de s’Espalmador, If the weather is good you can walk on this sandy stretch covered by less than one metre of water, from this beach to S´Espalmador. If the weather is not so good you should reach it by a small boat because of the lack of depth in this strait. Punta des Trucandors is the most northern place of Formentera and the nearest spot from S’Espalmador island. It has an orientation from north to south, a huge area, and it has sand and rocks, crystal clear water and a sandy ground. The beach is often very windy. It is possible to take a boat ride from Savina Port, stopping briefly on the way at Illetes Beach.  During the summer season the occupancy degree is quite high.
