Biniaraix in Sóller Valley

Biniaraix is a hamlet which lies 2 km from Sóller; at the centre of the settlement is the square of Plaça de la Concepció, which is where the small Church of Immaculada Concepció – constructed between the 16th and 17th centuries – is located. At the end of the street of Carrer de Sant Josep, which leads off from the square, are the washhouses where, in the past, the women of Biniaraix did their laundry. This is the departure point for the walk to the Barranc de Biniaraix, which provides one of the most attractive landscapes to be seen on Mallorca. The ravine can only be reached on foot, via a stone track, which was either built during the period of Moorish rule or during Roman times; this track, down which a torrent flows, passes between the stepped walls which contain millennial olive plantations. This is one of the two footpaths which lead to Lluc from Sóller.
