Ferreries lies inland and dates from the 18th century, when the Church of Sant Bartomeu was built. The church is the most important building in the town and the hub of the streets lined with houses with white façades that are typical of Ferreries and other places on Minorca.
The town square hosts a market every Saturday morning. The range of traditionally made goods and produce on sale includes the famed local cheeses that bear the Maó denomination of origin, charcuterie, cakes and biscuits and the shoes typical of Minorca that date back to the footwear once worn by people as they worked in the fields.
Ferreries is also well known for its industries, above all the factories that manufacture footwear, jewellery and furniture. Many of these companies have showrooms in the town where it is possible to purchase their goods.
